OpenAI Says Protections Should Only Apply to Them

OpernAI sends open letter claiming copyright by others holds them back and should be abolished while their IP protections should be national security level protected. What a load of ... #OpenAI #OpenLetter #AI #copyright #techbro #tech #piracy

In an open letter, OpenAI stated that the US should “let go of ‘unnecessarily burdensome’ regulations on artificial intelligence” like copyright protections and paying people for their creations, you know, unless it is DeepSeek taking OpenAI’s IP and then copyright and IP protections must be enforced at all costs. Welcome to the self-righteous hubris of the tech world.

It makes me think of the release of my first feature film. I had a tech friend who created applications. When I told him about my film he replied, “Let me know when I can download it as a torrent and I’ll check it out.” This was the same person who, moments earlier, was complaining about how anyone who copies someone else’s code, as a foundation to an app, should have the full extent of the law brought down on them for stealing. The myopic nature of the tech industry is what it has always been — a disappointment.

They will always say that they should be outside of the law in their drive for success, and then with the success argue that they should be protected to the fullest extent of the law from being called out for theft they’ve done, and protected from theft of their works. Remember when Sam Altman said that OpenAI would achieve AGI “within 6 months” … over a year ago? I, for one, look forward to the AI bubble bursting, for though it can do some amazing things, it is 90% hype and 10% actuality.

PS Gen AI art “Open a I suck” brought to you by “I don’t know what this is, but it says OpenAI suck, so I’ll take it” and “Garbage Pale Kids styled?”
