We may have set a new record for ourselves (though reviewing the logs for turnaround isn’t a continuous thing we do 24/7), but Copyright Slap was able to help get a copyright infringing film taken down from YouTube in 5 minutes. That is a big deal, at least to us. And to our users. And it should be.

Every minute a pirated film is on YouTube or a piracy site it is taking away time in which viewers would be watching that film on legit services where the content creator can make money off of it. If it’s Amazon Prime or YouTube, it’s partial pennies on the minutes, but it does add up. And streaming is where the majority of indie filmmakers make back the investments put into their projects.

It’s the same for any IP owner. Every minute an Etsy copycat is selling a product you created they are taking away your sales, sales that should be from the creator’s site. Every download of a book or online course from a piracy source is a paid download (or Amazon “borrow”) that could’ve gone to the IP holder. This applies across IP (I’m looking at you musicians and visual artists and YouTube creators and Influencers and, well, every creator). That’s why we do what we do. And also, that is why having a team with experience pays off. YouTube trusts us to send legitimate requests. So do all video platforms. So do ISPs. And the other entities we work with. Our time put in pays off in speed to which we can get the job done. And that translates directly into stopping profit drain for IP holders from illegal sites and online piracy.

Yes, it’s weird, to be proud of something like this, but that weirdness is what drives us to do better and help those who usually feel like they can’t afford support. Oh, guess what — We’re about to break into protecting Name, Image, (Voice), and Likeness so if you are looking to fight back against Deepfakes, we’re about to put a tool in your hand to slap back! (Or at least, you know, get them taken down quickly.)
